Trainer Bios

Phyllis Ellerman, M.Ed., C.S.C.S.
Phyllis is our Fitness Director and an Exercise Physiologist. She received her bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Maryland with a dual major in Marketing and Finance. Phyllis obtained her master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Virginia, with coursework in cardiac rehabilitation, adult fitness, athletic injuries, pharmacology, physiology, and metabolic adaptations to exercise. She has experience training all age groups and fitness levels from sports conditioning to seniors to neuromuscular disorders to post-rehab and cardiac rehab. She is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, a certified aerobics instructor, as well as a STOTT PILATES* certified instructor.

Rob Vorhees, M.Ed., C.S.C.S.
Rob is our Head Personal Trainer and an Exercise Physiologist. His area of expertise is identifying and addressing muscular imbalances. He received his bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary in Kinesiology where he was the assistant to the head strength and conditioning coach. He completed his master’s degree in Exercise Physiology at the University of Virginia. Rob is a certified strength and conditioning specialist with extensive experience in strength conditioning, post rehabilitation, and cardiac rehabilitation. Rob is a competitive skeet shooter.

Marianne Harman, C.S.C.S.
Marianne is one of our personal trainers and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. She received her bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University - Hawaii in Exercise Science. She is a certified aerobics instructor and has experience working at the University of Virginia Hospital as a Diet Manager. Marianne has experience helping patients with all types of dietary needs, diet education and food selection. Her background includes junior tennis conditioning, hip hop, fit kids classes, coaching basketball and working with all ages. Marianne’s interests include running, sports, and athletic conditioning.

Adrianne Flinn
Adrianne received her bachelor’s degree from Longwood University in Exercise Science. She has a variety of experience working with all ages and fitness levels, including cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, along with sport specific strength and conditioning for college athletes. She will teach pilates classes as well as water aerobics this summer. Her interests include running, Pilates, wakeboarding in the summer, and continuing to take up new sports when she gets the chance. Adrianne thoroughly enjoys helping others reap the benefits of regular exercise and proper nutrition.

Max Prokopy, M.Ed., C.S.C.S.
Max is a C.S.C.S. certified trainer and a graduate of the University of Virginia’s M.Ed. program in exercise physiology.  While at Virginia, he was the Graduate Assistant in strength & conditioning offering particular help to the golf, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, softball, and tennis programs. His Master's thesis examined training methods to improve the throwing velocity of college athletes. Max’s extensive experience coaching athletic performance was augmented by an internship at UVA’s SPEED clinic, which focuses on injury prevention for endurance athletes.  Max hopes to concentrate on injury prevention and performance enhancement of the athletes here at BHSC.

Wendy Hudspeth
Wendy is one of our full time personal trainers and has a bachelor’s degree from The University of Virginia in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Medicine. She has worked at the Charlottesville ACAC Physical Therapy clinic and the McCue Sports Medicine Center at UVA. Wendy has experience working with a variety of age ranges and training needs, from senior physical therapy rehab to athletic conditioning and rehab workouts for collegiate athletes. She teaches water aerobics and has experience coaching both gymnastics and cheerleading for ages 4-18. Wendy is highly energetic and excited to help others with their exercising endeavors.
